Overclocking without installing custom kernel?

Hello. I dont know how to even find a kernel for my phone and dont want to risk anything too serious. Is it possible to overclock without doing this?

Phone is Alcatel Fierce XL for metro. The thing has 2gb of ram but the cpu is only 1.1ghz. Would be worth a boost to 1.4-1.6 I think?
