Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus is the name of the circus caravan created in 1919 by James Anthony Bailey and Phineas Taylor Barnum, and the Ringling Brothers Ringling Brothers.

Phineas Taylor Barnum is 60 years old when "P.T. Barnum's Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan, and Circus" is making its debut. At that time, it was the largest circus business in American history. "We had to have a great show," said Barnum, "The public expects this, and will appreciate it." They love it: Barnum will pocket $ 400,000 in its first year of operation.

Around 1872, Barnum already spoke of his company as "The Greatest Show On Earth," and it is truly the biggest show in the world. The "Barnum's Traveling World's Fair, Great Roman Hippodrome and Greatest Show On Earth" ensemble spans two hectares and can seat 10,000 spectators at a time. To get more people, he will be on rails.

In 1881, Barnum joined his publicity with James Antony Bailey and James L. Hutchinson. The result is the "Barnum's Greatest Show on Earth, and the Great London Circus, Sanger's Royal British Menagerie and The Grand International Allied Shows United", soon known as the "Barnum & London Circus".

The circus, which is largely based on performances with animals, has been confronted for years with animal organizations and organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which have successfully banned the show in some cities (such as Asheville, North Carolina). In 2014, after fourteen years of litigation, Feld Entertainment received $ 25.2 million in compensation from activist groups including HSUS. In May 2016, the circus management decides to remove the elephants (a flagship and historical number) from the program, and these are sent to the Ringling Bros in Florida.
